Pollo AI is a video and image generation platform built on a single idea: instead of building its own engine, it collects everyone else's in one place. Rather than training its own models, it licenses and integrates other providers' models, including Google's Veo, OpenAI's Sora, Kuaishou's Kling, and ByteDance's Seedance. You pick the model from a dropdown, spend credits from one shared balance, and generate. The practical payoff is that you can run the same prompt through several engines without opening separate tabs, paying separate subscriptions, or tracking separate bills. With over 20 million registered users, the platform has clearly found an audience for that convenience.
The trade-off is baked into the same design. Because you always work through an abstraction layer, advanced features of individual models may not be fully exposed, and new model capabilities often lag behind direct access. A model's quirks can still leak through when you least expect it, and the aggregator's real job is handling the parts it doesn't control, mainly the credit economics and the interface. Hands-on testing
I started the way any new user would, from the Pollo AI homepage. The pitch sits right at the top, "The Ultimate AI Creative Suite for Creators & Marketers," with a prompt box already loaded and a "Start for Free" button in the corner. The default setup shown was the Pollo 2.0 model at 5 seconds, 480p, 16:9. It looks inviting, and the promise of jumping straight in without a card is a fair reason to click.
After signing in through the free entry, I checked my balance before doing anything else. It read zero. No starter allowance, no trial pool waiting to be spent. The interface was fully open and every tool was visible, yet the currency that runs all of it sat empty from the first second.
I decided to test image generation first, since it draws the fewest credits. I switched to the Pollo Image 1.6 model and wrote a prompt built to expose fine detail: "Extreme close-up portrait of an older fisherman at dawn, weathered skin, individual water droplets on his face, soft golden backlight, shallow depth of field, photorealistic, 4k." The generate button showed the cost as 4 credits.
Four credits against a balance of zero has only one outcome. The moment I hit generate, a panel slid in with the line "You don’t have enough credits to generate this video," followed immediately by an upgrade wall. The plans on offer defaulted to annual billing with a 50% discount stamped across the top. Lite came in at $10 a month for 300 credits, Pro at $14.50 a month for 800 credits carrying the "Most popular" tag, and Ultra at $109. The first thing the tool asked of me was payment, before a single output existed.
That sent me looking for the free credits the marketing mentions. They exist, but they are spread across small tasks rather than handed over at signup. The one I found without digging was a daily check-in offering 25 credits across seven consecutive days, meaning a single visit unlocks only a fraction. Claiming the rest depends on returning each day and completing separate social tasks that are not surfaced anywhere obvious in the main workspace.
The takeaway from this stretch is about friction rather than capability. Getting from "Start for Free" to an actual first image asks more of a new user than the homepage suggests. You sign in to an empty wallet, hit a paywall on your opening prompt, and then have to hunt for scattered rewards to earn back the handful of credits that one image costs. For a casual visitor evaluating the tool for the first time, that is the point where many would close the tab.
